Summary :

By definition, Christians are followers and disciples of Jesus Christ . They follow and apply the teachings he left them in the Bible. But Jesus is also God the Son , and is thus an integral part of the Holy Trinity . When you consider all these factors, it can be difficult to find the right prayer to pray to the Lord Jesus . However, praying to Christ is much easier than it seems.

    Who is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ is one of the deities that make up the Holy Trinity, along with God the Father and the Holy Spirit. He is said to have taken human form through the Virgin Mary (the Immaculate Conception). He came to earth to save humanity, and continues to implore the mercy of Our Father. The New Testament gospel advocates the resurrection of the Lord Jesus , and is almost entirely focused on sovereignty . Christ came to earth to become the savior of all humanity. He preached the word of God to his apostles so that his message would be perpetuated throughout all generations. At this time, Jesus continues to ask the Almighty for forgiveness for our sins. He is determined that all souls be saved.

The glory of God is eternal, and that is why we owe Him praise and worship. His goodness is such that He offered His only Son to us simple servants. God is merciful, and has shown all the humility necessary to spare us from hell and the tortures that Satan has prepared for us.

Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life , and blessed are his followers, for God will be able to forgive them more easily. Jesus of Nazareth was carried by the Blessed Virgin, which makes him both an ordinary man and an exceptional being. He is both the son of man and the son of God .

Christian life in general revolves around Jesus . He is the embodiment of good par excellence, and we must do everything to obtain his graces.

    Prayers to Jesus

The Prayer of the Heart (also called the Jesus Prayer ) is probably the best-known Christian devotional prayer. It consists of reciting the name of Jesus in a short and simple manner. Despite the many forms and variations, this prayer generally has the same structure. The simplest version is "Lord, have mercy", or "Lord, have mercy on us" among the Orthodox. The expanded form of this same prayer is " Lord Jesus Christ , Son of God, have mercy on me", or "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner".

It is also possible to implore Jesus for our daily worries. This prayer, for example, helps us to face despair:

"I believe, Lord , that at the end of the night, there is no night, but dawn. I believe, Lord, that at the end of winter, there is no winter, but spring. I believe, Lord, that at the end of despair, there is no despair, but hope. I believe, Lord, that at the end of waiting, there is no waiting, but encounter. I believe, Lord, that at the end of death, there is no death, but life."

If you are tired, you can also quote this prayer:

“Teach me to rest . Teach me to leave things unfinished, to not want to settle all matters before sleeping. Teach me to accept being tired. Teach me to finish a day. Otherwise, I will not know how to die… Because there is still work to do after me! Teach me to accept… Not to be You.”

    Why pray to Jesus?

Many believers try to pray to Jesus every day , or even say a daily prayer to Him. This is even considered the ultimate mark of Christianity. You don't have to come to church to pray to Jesus. You can do it anywhere.

Jesus Christ is the best consolation for us, poor sinners. He came to earth to fulfill a prophecy, and he will return to complete it. He knew very well that he was going to be betrayed by Judas, and that he was going to be crucified on the cross. But that did not prevent him from continuing his penance. His last breaths were addressed to the heavenly Father, and he continued to implore his pity so that he would forgive us. The life of Jesus is a true consecration to men. Throughout his existence, he tried to guide them on the right path, even if it meant giving himself as a sacrifice. He endured all suffering so that we would be spared. The Lord Jesus Christ suffered the worst martyrdom for us.

Christians are often called children of God. But they are also disciples of Jesus . Addressing a prayer to Christ is not only an opportunity to ask for something from Him, but also the simplest way to benefit from His grace. Communion with Jesus is the only way to attain salvation and enter the kingdom of God, hence the importance of praying fervently.

    When to pray to Jesus?

Jesus is one of the pillars of the Holy Trinity. The most opportune moment to pray to him is therefore during a worship service. During a mass for example, the name of Jesus is invoked several times. Sometimes even a little more than that of God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Catholics even devote a special prayer to the sacred heart of Jesus . For them, it would be a mark of holiness truly apart. If you want to go even further in your relationship with GOD, we offer you our article on the prayer of I greet you Mary .

But then, should we only pray to Jesus in a church ? Well, no. Jesus can be invoked anywhere, and at any time. You can share your daily worries with Him, and entrust yourself to Him. You can address a prayer to Christ as well in the most joyful moments, as in the darkest moments. "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" he tells us (John 14:6).
