The birth of the baby Jesus

A few months before the birth of Jesus , the virgin Mary had been visited by the angel Gabriel . He announced to her that she would soon have a son. Mary and Joseph had to prepare to receive this child. But in the meantime, the Roman emperor ordered everyone to return to the city of their ancestors. He had decided to make a large census, which is why everyone had to return to where they came from. Joseph and Mary were thus obliged to go to Bethlehem.

After several days of traveling, they finally arrived in Bethlehem . But Joseph could not find any hotel that would take them in. So they decided to settle in a stable, next to some animals. Shortly after, Mary gave birth to a fabulous baby boy. It was the baby Jesus . Since there was no bed inside the stable, Mary laid him in a manger.

A star appeared over the city of Bethlehem . Three wise men saw this star and decided to follow it. For them, this star was the sign announcing the birth of a king . The three wise men therefore made the journey from the East to Bethlehem. The star brought them to the exact place where the child was. As soon as they saw Jesus, they knelt down to worship him and offered him gifts. The wise men offered Jesus gold, frankincense and myrrh.

    Visiting the temple

At just 12 years old, Jesus had managed to impress an entire audience by speaking about God and the Scriptures. He accomplished this feat while visiting the Temple in Jerusalem. Everyone was impressed by his wisdom and knowledge .

    The baptism of Jesus

At the age of 30, Jesus was finally ready to fulfill his mission. But first he decided to go to John the Baptist so that he could be baptized. While Jesus was being baptized in the Jordan River, the sky opened up. A dove could be seen coming down from heaven and settling on him. This dove was none other than the Holy Spirit . At the same time, a voice could be heard from heaven saying, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Jesus and his disciples (12 apostles)

As Jesus was walking along the Sea of Galilee, he came across two fishermen, Simon and Peter. The two men were brothers and were fishing. When Jesus said to them, “Come with me, and I will make you fishers of men,” the two fishermen followed him immediately.

A little further on, Jesus saw two other brothers , James and John. The two men were accompanied by Zebedee, their father, and were mending their fishing net. When Jesus called them to join him, the two fishermen followed him immediately.

Jesus’ encounter with Matthew is an equally intriguing story. Matthew was sitting at the tax office. Jesus walked by and told him to follow him. Some time later, Jesus and his disciples decided to have a meal at Matthew’s house. They were joined by some ill-reputed people and tax collectors. The Pharisees then asked, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and ill-reputed people?” Jesus replied that he had come to call sinners, not the righteous.

    The miracles performed by Jesus

    • Water turned into wine

Mary and Jesus went to Cana to attend a wedding. Unfortunately, there was not enough wine for all the guests at the party. Mary explained the problem to Jesus. He took six large jars filled with water and turned their contents into wine. This was one of his first great miracles .

    • When Jesus managed to feed 5000 people with 5 loaves and two fish

Jesus and his disciples had gathered a crowd of about 5,000 men, women, and children. As it was getting late, they had to think about feeding all these people. However, the disciples only had five loaves and two fish to give them. Jesus began by thanking God . Then he shared the loaves and fish with his disciples. Each of them redistributed each piece to the crowd and everyone got their share. At the end of the meal, there were still 12 baskets of food left. Everyone was satisfied.

    • When Jesus walked on water

Jesus asked his disciples to get into a boat while he looked for a quiet place to pray. After some time, Jesus walked on the water and came closer to the boat . Thinking they were facing a ghost, the disciples were frightened. But when they saw that it was Jesus, they said, " You are truly the Son of God ."

    • When Jesus Raised Lazarus

Jesus had learned that his friend Lazarus was seriously ill. He said, “This illness will not lead to death; it will serve to glorify God. It will be an opportunity to reveal the glory of the Son of God !”

Jesus decides to go to the city where his friend is, but he learns that Lazarus has been dead for four days now. He says to Martha, the deceased's sister: "I am the resurrection and the life . Whoever puts his trust in me will live, even if he dies."

Jesus asked Martha if she believed his word. She answered that she believed him. So Jesus went to Lazarus' tomb and ordered her to come out. Immediately Lazarus got up and came out of the tomb. He had been resurrected.

    The crucifixion of Christ

At his last supper, Jesus gathered all his disciples around a table. He took the bread, blessed it and broke it while saying, “Take, eat; this is my body.” Then Jesus took a cup of wine and said, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant , which is shed for the remission of sins. Do this, every time you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Jesus and his disciples then went to Gethsemane . Jesus went aside to pray. He asked the Father to spare him the cup of trial. But he ended his prayer with: “But let your will be done, not mine.”

Meanwhile, Judas, one of Jesus’ disciples, conspired with the Jewish leaders to have Jesus arrested. Jesus was accused of fomenting a rebellion. Even though he was proven innocent, the Roman governor had him executed anyway. And so Jesus was crucified and died on the cross. He chose to endure all this suffering to wash away our sins.

    The Resurrection of Jesus

Jesus rose from the dead three days after his burial. On the way, he met two of his disciples, but they did not recognize him. The two men invited Jesus into their house and to eat. It was not until they were blessing the meal that they realized it was Jesus.

40 days after his resurrection, Jesus returned to heaven. He commanded his disciples to go to the four corners of the earth to proclaim the Word of God. Jesus was greeted by two angels. They promised that Jesus would return to earth one day, just as he had ascended to heaven.
